Sanding is a method of abrasive blasting, which prepares the surface of different materials before covering it with protective (anticorrosive) or decorative coatings, including powder coating. This method is faster and more effective than the traditional sandpaper fine grinding. The surface after sanding is usually much smoother and there are no problems with cleaning and grinding of hard-to-access places.
Processing using the sanding method is excellent at removing old varnish, rubber and plastic coatings as well as rust, metallurgic mill scale and other contamination. It is also a perfect preparation of the surface for the following activities: galvanization, welding, repairing metals or bonding as, thanks to it, we obtain appropriate cleanliness.
We can clean a given object in the scope of degrees of corrosion: A, B, C or D. Depending on the needs, we can obtain four classes of surface preparation from Sa 1/A to Sa 3/A, that is from coarse particle removal to optically clean metallic colour of steel, the so-called stainless steel, or another material (according to PN-EN ISO 8501-1:2008).
Cleaning degree - characteristics:
- Sa 1/A – Coarse blast cleaning. The surface viewed without zooming cannot contain oil, grease, dust, poorly adjacent mill scale, rust, paint coating or foreign matter.- Sa 2/B - Thorough blast cleaning. The surface viewed without zooming cannot contain oil, grease, dust, larger traces mill scale, rust, paint coating or foreign matter. Every slight contamination sticks very strongly.
- Sa 2,5/C – More thorough blast cleaning. The surface viewed without zooming cannot contain oil, grease, dust, mill scale, rust, paint coating or foreign matter. The only things that can remain are traces of contamination in the form of dots or stripes.
- Sa 3/D - Blast cleaning to optically clean steel. The surface viewed without zooming cannot contain oil, grease, dust, mill scale, rust, paint coating or foreign matter. The surface should have a uniform metallic colour.
SA3 Class is possible to get only on a new material.
